When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.
Ansel Adams
I am intrigued by light and colour. I am fascinated by texture and form. I am enthralled by the magic of digital photography – it is a different magic to the days of swirling bits of paper in chemicals – but nonetheless for me the magic is still there. That is partly why I chose the name Alchemy Photography, a link to the ancient art that endeavoured to turn base metals to gold. In my work I strive to turn light and form and colour into something precious, even those small, everyday scenes or items that we might take for granted.
I am delighted by how a star anise seed pod becomes a mysterious landscape of rough and smooth, how a raspberry looks like a cluster of jewels or a folded scarf becomes layers of whirling movement. I am grateful for the gift of my photography as it encourages me to really see my world.
